Lassana Diarra

The free agent has also been linked with Celtic this season.

Lassana Diarra is 'unlikely' to join Queens Park Rangers in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The west London club are expected to deal in free transfer and loan deals during the winter window but the Mail state that Diarra has options to return back to Russia.

The Frenchman has been linked with Celtic this season and reportedly almost joined QPR in the summer.

In an interesting twist, however, Diarra has been training with West Ham United's head of medicine Stijn Vandenbroucke, whom he previously worked with at Anzhi Makhachkala.

It may simply be something perfectly innocent in the fact that the 29-year-old is working with the West Ham man to up his fitness, although the Mail claim that, 'if anything, Diarra would prefer to move to Upton Park.'

It appears for now, though, that Diarra won't be joining QPR, West Ham or Celtic. The Frenchman is clearly a midfielder of value - and had plenty of ability in his prime. But the fact that he came close to joining the R's, as well as SPL champions Celtic, does not seem to count for anything with regards to his future.

All we can concretely say at the moment is that Diarra is working with a member of West Ham's staff - but only for training purposes.

Allardyce confirms Hammers will sign Lassana Diarra

West Ham forced to wait until the end of the season to sign Lassana Diarra

West Ham have been forced to wait until the summer to sign Lassana Diarra, manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed.

The French midfielder has been a free agent since having his contract terminated by Lokomotiv Moscow last year, and the Hammers tried to land the much-travelled Diarra to help with their European push.

However, a FIFA regulation means Diarra is unable to sign for Allardyce’s side until the end of the season, although the 29-year-old may continue to train with the Hammers in the mean time.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: ‘We had agreed a deal and unfortunately the FIFA regulation – that hasn’t been explained to me yet.

‘There is a FIFA regulation at the moment that cannot be overcome so he will not be joining us until the end of the season.’

Probably not a bad deal, while I know that is not what we are trying to do generally.

Seems happy to take a short term deal.

Diarra destination decided

Lassana Diarra – who has been training with the Hammers for months – looks set to join Marseilles – according to morning reports.

The Frenchman has been in dispute with his former club Lokomotiv Moscow and has been training with the Hammers squad but now free to move, it appears his future may be in France.

Leading French newspaper L’Equipe claim he has decided to move to Marseille and should complete a switch before the weekend.
The newspaper says the French club has offered the 30-year-old a four-year deal and beat off several sides in securing his signature.

Tbf johnson if he is out for three months can't see many coming in for him
And from what I've heard is he badly wants a London club so pretty much narrows the field

Re: Lassana Diarra
So you think one of the biggest clubs in World football and one of the most established names certainly in European football are going to get mugged along by us until deadline day they'll be forced to sign for us for nowt?

And no other club is going to come in for him in the meanwhile?

Fuck me this is Barcelona we're talking about not the Dog and Duck, Guildford.

I would prefer SONG

Re: Lassana Diarra
If it's a straight choice between this bloke or Song, I'd rather have Song I think, even if we have got to wait for him to get fit. Technically better, younger, hasn't been sitting around for a whole year......

Both would be brilliant though!

Re: Lassana Diarra
According to twatter Song went for a meeting with 'Barcelona executives' to set out his stall re. moving to us.... I take it from this (if true) that we are still haggling over a valuation and Alex is doing his bit to try and secure a free?

Reckon this will happen on deadline day, us having avoided paying his wages for as long as possible.

Re: Lassana Diarra
For me, it's either this guy or Song. Don't see why we'd get both, with Kouyate, Obiang, Noble and Poyet already at the club.

Obviously given the age, Song (if his injuries aren't too debilitating) makes more sense.

The other thing is Song's vision and range of passing is excellent...him feeding the ball up to Payet is where we should be looking.

Mbodj, I don't know enough about to comment on, but Song on form is a truly classy player with the ball at his feet. More so than Kouyate, Noble, etc. If we want big black destroyers we have kouyate and Obiang already...Song gives some class and guile in that deep lying slot...I don't know if Mbodj would.

Think if we get Diarra, Song & Mirallas in we will be well covered in the midfield areas. Maybe another striker and we are done. Cant see how this Lanzini chap will fit in? unless he can play upfront maybe?

Re: Lassana Diarra - Update
I'd rather go for M'bodj who by all accounts is as good in central midfield as he is at centre back.

He is only 25 years of age and is over 6"3. A much better option than Song who I have concerns about in terms of his poor form at the back end of last season and his injury. I could see the signing of Song being another Andy Carroll situation.

Diarra is 30 years of age and I question his desire having gone to Russia for the money and then caused aggro there when refusing to turn up for training etc. We could do without a bad egg in the squad.

I quite like the idea of us getting Rabiot on loan with a view to a permanent move next year. He is only 20 and looks like a class act in the making but can't get in the PSG team at the moment.

Going back to M'bodj, imagine him and Kouyate sitting in front of Ogbonna and Reid and with Payet in front of them. We'd have a beast of a spine.
